The Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Alliance has praised the bipartisan introduction of H.R. 9263, the Supporting Innovation in Agriculture Act, brought forward by Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA-16) and Mike Thompson (D-CA-04), among other sponsors.
The bill proposes a federal investment tax credit to encourage the use of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) and precision agriculture technologies, specifically for specialty crop producers. CEA Alliance Executive Director Tom Stenzel emphasized that the act addresses a key policy need, enabling producers to grow more efficiently with fewer resources.
The bill has received widespread support from over 50 prominent farm organizations and trade associations. Additionally, 27 state agriculture department leaders have expressed their backing, spanning states from Alaska to Wyoming. According to Colin O’Neil, Chair of CEA Alliance’s Public Policy Working Group, this act will be instrumental in enhancing the resilience and sustainability of U.S. food supply chains, urging Congress to pass the legislation promptly.
